In this week’s Gospel, Jesus asks the disciples who they think he is and then proceeds to predict his passion for the first time.

In today’s Second Reading we hear that violence starts from within the human heart. But from God comes the possibility of peace.

God’s redemptive action on behalf of those who would accept salvation had been in process since the beginning of the world. These actions express the thought and care that God takes for Christians’ salvation.

You have entered Christ’s life through baptism, Paul says. Accept this new life he has bestowed on you. He has paid up in your name whatever you may have owed to God.

As I begin the first months of retirement, I ask myself regularly, “What’s next?” What great thing will God ask of me? In what cause will I be called to invest my time, talent, and treasure?

Saint Paul accepts the sufferings that his ministry requires: filling up what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ. Christ’s followers must endure struggle for the advancement of Christ’s kingdom.

Everyone loves the idea of vacation, but when we actually take one, it seems to be over in the blink of an eye. It’s hard at first to clear the distractions away from our minds, but over time the benefits begin to bubble up.

All Christian faith–the Colossians’, Paul’s, and ours–has a cosmic dimension. Rooted in Christ who is the source of all creation and the firstborn of all the dead, faith involves sharing universal reconciliation.

Given the state of the world, it’s easy to be mired in grief. But lightness and grace surround us. We just have to look for them.
