St. Francis of Assisi

Despite their differences, Francis and Bonaventure shared a love of God and a common vision of Christ as the center of creation and goal of spiritual maturity.

Everything is sacred. The entire creation, including every person, is a sacrament of God.

To describe God as “humble” may seem outrageous or even scandalous. Who could stake one’s life on a humble God?

The simplest way to describe God’s poverty and humility is in terms of love. Love gives itself away—this is God’s poverty.

Maybe because Francis was not an intellectual he could perceive the mystery of God in its pristine beauty—the extraordinary divine in the ordinary human.

The love of the Father for the Son is the same divine love for all creation.
