Find what you’re looking for
Sometimes I get angry with God. I used to feel that this was bad, but took comfort from the likes of David (“How long, oh Lord?”), Job, even Jesus (“Why have you forsaken me?”). Is your anger reflected in any way in your relationship with God?
St. Patrick continues to be a popular saint well beyond the Ireland that he so loved. But after 1,500 years, one must wonder what it is about his story that has such longstanding appeal.
Be at peace in all things, because the enemy, who always fishes in troubled waters, takes advantage of our discouragement to achieve his intentions more readily.
We may ask ourselves why more people aren’t doing something. But looking at change in terms of what we think other people should be doing is likely only to frustrate us even more.
Once we realize that Jesus came to save the entire human person and not just the soul, so much of the worry, stress, and burdens we heap upon ourselves dissipate.
This Lenten season, may we bring forward our own pain and grief into the desert and find solidarity and peace with Christ alone.
This year, I am wandering the Mojave in my mind and heart.
We grow as persons each time we make even a small self-sacrifice in giving to another, in loving another.
While the Judeans Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego (Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah were their Hebrew names) were in exile in Babylon, they were thrown into a white-hot furnace for not bowing down to a golden statue.
Be at peace by living in the now. Only when we see the future as a positive reality does it become possible to live well in the present moment.
