Today, the Church is enmeshed in scandals, a Church in crisis—of authority, credibility, and division.

Have you ever been surrounded by a whirlwind of activity, perhaps in the midst of family and friends, and felt a sudden whoosh of deep contentment?

Both Christ and St. Francis show us that they suffered what we suffered, but they suffered in love, and that makes all the difference.

The tension within each of us is not necessarily bad and is not sinful. Like our human emotions, the tension our longing causes is neutral.

For St. Francis, this search for himself began and ended by asking the only one whose opinion mattered: Jesus.

Being his disciple means transforming every aspect of our lives so that nothing, not even the smallest part of who we are, is out of touch with the mission of Christ.
