Sharing the Word for May 31, 2021 – Ninth Week in Ordinary Time – Year 1

Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary

May 31, 2021
Daily Reading From the USCCB: Zephaniah 3:14-18a

Today we celebrate Mary’s journey to her cousin Elizabeth to help her in her pregnancy. The quotation from the prophet Zephaniah is an invitation to joyfulness. “Be glad and exult with all your heart. Fear not. Be not discouraged. The Lord is in your midst”: appropriate sentiments for the encounter between the mother of the Messiah and the prophet who would prepare the way for his mission.

Appropriate sentiments too, for our own encounters with Mary. Our posture in her presence should be one of happiness and gratitude because through her the Lord is in our midst. We Catholics ask Mary to pray for us now and at the hour of our death. She’s always there for us just as she was there for Elizabeth.
