Sharing the Word for March 20, 2023 – Fourth Week of Lent – Year 1

Solemnity (celebrated) of Saint Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary

March 20, 2023
Daily Reading from the USCCB: 2 Samuel 7:4-5a, 12-14a, 16

Today is the Solemnity of St. Joseph–foster father of Jesus and patron saint of the Church universal.

Our Old Testament reading is a prophecy about the future of the family of King David. God tells David that he is planning to send an heir after David who would found a family that would last forever. God is a very determined planner, always making plans–long term plans for his family. God had plans for Joseph–Jesus’ legal father who would take care of Jesus and defend him.

God still makes plans for that family of his–the Church. He still protects and defends it. Joseph of Nazareth, patron of the universal Church, is still active in those plans, still looking out for us all.
