Reflect
Like many who follow Francis, I’ve read “Canticle of the Creatures” over the years, but recently sought it out again for the words “to you alone, Most High, do they belong”. While visiting with cherished friends on a beach in New Jersey, I spied a strange dark shape, thinking it was the waves receding on a jetty. But it was a whale on the shore, enormous, swimming left to right! It kept surfacing and disappearing as a white fountain of water sprayed. I had never seen a whale before and was stunned; everyone on the beach–including me–was shouting and pointing with joy. Reflect on a life event where a miracle of nature restored your sense of wonder, connecting you to God.
Pray
Today, front and center in our hearts,
let us hold God’s miracles of the earth
arising when we have least expected them.
Let us trust that they are always there,
often unknown and invisible.
We wait. We watch. We long to see them.
And then in all their splendor they suddenly appear.
