Reflect
So often, when I imagine the nativity scene, I picture Jesus fully divine, haloed and glowing, the Son of God. But he was Mary’s son, too, fully human. Did he look like her? Did Joseph say, “He has your eyes”? Did Mary’s mother say, “He looks just like you did at that age”?
Pray
Dear Jesus,
I know you are like us
in all things except sin,
and sometimes I gloss
over the details of your humanity.
But you had baby eyes that shed tears
when you were hungry or wet.
You probably got sick
with a cough and a runny nose,
as all little kids do.
Maybe you cried
when you got your feelings hurt.
Maybe you were afraid
of the dark or had trouble sleeping.
Did you like to play?
Did you make your parents laugh?
The fact that you gave up heaven
to be a child like us is almost unfathomable.
Act
Spend a few minutes today thinking about your own human qualities and then apply them to Jesus. Let it remind you how much like us he was.
