Everyday Pilgrims

Reflect

Some of us may get the opportunity to go on an international pilgrimage one day to see the Vatican, kneel where Jesus was crucified, or walk where an apostle trod. Those experiences are pure gift and so special, but there is a danger in limiting the pilgrim mindset to those grand moments. In reality, a trip to Mass on Sunday, a local shrine, or a visit to a monastery in your state can all have great spiritual value if we remain aware of God’s presence.

Pray

God, help us to have a pilgrim mindset daily,
and to look for your grace and love wherever we go.

Some days may not feel like a pilgrimage,
but your Son and his disciples—f
rom the apostles to the saints
to the countless scores of everyday faithful followers—

remind us that we are indeed, on a journey.
This day, every day, we walk toward you.

Act

Make a day trip out of Sunday Mass this weekend. Arrive early to pray a little extra or sit in silence a little longer afterwards. Have a picnic nearby and sing beloved hymns or spiritual songs.
