A Prayer for Peace on Election Day

Hands together in prayer

The weeks leading up to today’s election has been wrought with strife, mistrust, and vitriol. As children of God, we should strive to do better. To be better. After all, we know that, in Jesus, nothing human is undeserving of God’s attention, that God rejoices with us when we are happy and sorrows with us when troubles come our way.

A prayer or song lifted in unison seals the individual members as one before the Lord. May this prayer offer a measure of peace in uncertain times.

Opening Prayer
Knowing that our hearts are restless until they rest in you, we begin in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Scripture
And we urge you, beloved, to admonish the idlers, encourage the faint hearted, help the weak, be patient with all of them. See that none of you repays evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to all. (1 Thessalonians 5:14–15)

Petitions
Response: Grant us peace.
Help us to work for justice in our world, we pray…
For the integrity of creation, we pray…
Place your Spirit in our hearts and homes, we pray…
Add your own petitions.

Closing
May the God of peace make us perfect in holiness…spirit, soul,
and body, so that we may be a source of peace for others.
