Day Nine: A Catholic Family Advent

Scripture

The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad, the desert shall rejoice and blossom; like the crocus it shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice with joy and singing.

— Isaiah 35:1–2

Reflection

I love to garden. I love to grow different flowers and combinations to see what a beautiful landscape I can create. It never ceases to amaze me how two very different flowers can complement each other so well in my yard. Even in these winter months, I take comfort in those plants in my garden that withstand the season and provide me with beauty. In many ways, my garden reminds me a lot of the people in my life. We are all so very different, but complement each other well with our different personalities, strengths, and attributes.

Talk Together

How can you share your talents with others to create a beautiful landscape?

Prayer

Lord, help us to blossom and share our beauty with others through our talents, our service, our selves.

Activity

Want to brighten up a dreary winter day? Try forcing some bulbs. You can do this with just about any of the spring flowering bulbs, such as daffodils, tulips, or hyacinths. Many stores sell kits with special vases, but I have found it just as easy to place gravel in the bottom of a shallow pot, place the bulb on top, and fill the container with water. For more ideas, search the Internet or contact your local garden store.
