Day Ten: A Catholic Family Advent

Scripture

O sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day.

— Psalm 96:1–2

Reflection

One of my favorite Christmas movies is The Polar Express. Every year my son, Alex, and I watch it together. In the movie, the main character receives a bell that he cannot hear. Only when he begins to believe in the magic of Christmas can he hear the bell ringing. These days, it is sometimes hard to believe in things. Try to focus on the goodness of the season. Listen to the joyous sounds and message, like the bell.

Talk Together

What do you love most about the Christmas season? What brings you joy?

Prayer

Dear Lord, when we are faced with challenges, struggle and doubt, help us find joy.

Activity

When I was younger, one of my favorite holiday projects was making jingle-bell bracelets. They are easy to make. Find something to string the small bells onto: yarn, ribbon, or elastic will do. Put on as many bells as you can while still having enough string to tie a knot to form the bracelet. If you would rather have a necklace, just make the string longer.
