Christmas Day: A Catholic Family Advent

Scripture

All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people.

— John 1:3–4

Reflection

Birthdays in our family are a big deal. It is the day that everyone celebrates the gift that you are to the world. I often try to let that person know what they mean to me, whether through a cake, a party, or a special dinner. Seeing all the celebration that surrounds Jesus’s birth, it seems appropriate that we should likewise celebrate how special each of us is.

Talk Together

What gift would you have brought to Jesus if you had visited him in the manger?

Prayer

Welcome, baby Jesus. Thank you for bringing light into our lives.

Activity

As part of your Christmas meal, include a birthday cake for Jesus. Have everyone help decorate it. After dinner, light the candles and sing “Happy Birthday” to Jesus.
