Life can often feel like, in St. Anthony’s words, “choppy water,” and we can indeed lose our sense of bearing when things get chaotic or even hostile.

As my hearing has diminished over time, the drive to listen to what’s going on around me, to truly absorb and comprehend, has not.

We’ve just passed through a long and, at times, trying holy season of Lent, rich with spiritual potential, but it can come at a cost. As challenging as this time can be, however, there’s almost a twinge of sadness as the season passes into the rearview mirror.
