Reflect
An invitation to a Mardi Gras party at the Sisters’ Motherhouse—how could I turn it down? Picturing sedate older nuns listening to jazz, I was delighted by their three-piece band, New Orleans decorations, and a parade of costumed Sisters passing out beads as they swayed and twirled in delight. Simplicity, one of their values, was in full view. And so much joy!
Pray
Three-in-one God,
Father, Son, Spirit,
your eternal dance
must be one of energy, joy and love.
Thank you for these holy women,
many of whom I know professionally.
They are simple enough
to let down their guard,
laugh with each other and celebrate with joy,
bringing me into their community
for a night I will remember.

If you’re like me, you sometimes feel embarrassed about being “childlike” because of assumptions (my own, others’) about being “professional.” Take a page from the Sisters’ book: find time to build some simple fun into your day. Maybe invite others to join in. Enjoy!
