Reflect
So much of our life is spent waiting. Sometimes the wait is mere inconvenience, like waiting in line or on hold. Sometime the wait feels existential, like waiting for the biopsy report or for our wayward child to find her path. What if we used those periods—short and inconsequential or massive and potentially life-changing—as a way to take stock, give thanks, and offer ourselves to God’s will and God’s service once again?
Pray
O God, you are the Creator of time,
The Lord of past, present, and future.
When our clock time is interrupted,
When we must wait,
Give us patience,
Give us reverence for this present Kairos moment,
Help us entrust ourselves to you
And have faith that our future unfolds
In Your loving care.
Act
You can build up your “waiting muscles” in small ways. When you are waiting on hold or in line, resist the temptation to distract yourself. Instead, take a deep intentional breath, try to notice your surroundings, and maybe offer a short prayer. When the big, difficult waits come, you’ll be more ready to navigate them with faith.
