Franciscan Spirituality

Christ shared his glory with his disciples. He breathed upon them and sent his Holy Spirit upon them for the forgiveness of sins. He does the same for us today.

One way the Franciscan tradition should shape or influence our lives is to remind us that our relationship with God is no different than other relationships. It takes communication, time, effort, attention, and love.

As St. Thomas More is “a man for all seasons,” St. Francis of Assisi is a man for all ages.

Offering up our own pain or struggle becomes part of our Christian faith and love for others.

Pope Francis reminds us that Christmas calls us to be on the lookout for this manifestation of the divine. And if God wants to dwell with us, we better be willing to open our doors to him.

We might be struggling right now to see God’s plan unfolding, whether in our own lives or those of our children. But Christmas is the beginning of the ultimate happy ending.
