Daily Reading From the USCCB: Mark 10:46-52

The narrative of the blind Bartimaeus is really a lesson about how we are to approach Jesus. It’s a lesson about prayer.

First of all we must be aware of our need. That’s basic. The blind Bartimaeus knew he needed healing. Next, we must be convinced that Jesus really can help us. The blind man keeps calling out to Jesus because he knows that Jesus can give him what he needs. And finally, Bartimaeus puts his need into words. “Master, I want to see.” Jesus then tells the blind man that it is his faith–his confidence, his persistence, his conviction–that Jesus can restore his sight that have brought about what he was seeking.

How are we to approach Jesus with our needs? Bartimaeus shows us how.
