Memorial of Saint Philip Neri

Daily Reading From the USCCB: Mark 10:32-45

As Jesus and his disciples walk toward Jerusalem, he tells them what lays ahead for him: arrest, torture, and death. This is the third time that Jesus foretells his passion and death. He wants them to be sure they know what’s coming so that when it comes they won’t think it’s all happening by chance. Jesus knew it all ahead of time. He wanted his followers to be ready.

But the apostles don’t get it. They suffered from a kind if chronic incomprehension. They’re more worried about who was going to be important in Jesus’ kingdom than they were about what was going to happen to Jesus.

Jesus came to give his life for the salvation of the world. That’s what’s important to grasp.

New call-to-action
