When You Say Hello, It’s a Prayer

Reflect

Pelagius, the Celtic saint, asserted that every newborn child bears the face of God. The same is true for the adults you meet today. Each person you meet bears the image of God and deserves your care, even when you disagree with them. In greeting another, you can affirm the divine within them by acknowledging, “The Spirit in me greets the Spirit in you.” Every encounter can be an opportunity for healing and supporting the growth of both those whom you meet and yourself.

Pray

Loving Creator,
Help me see your image in everyone I meet
And acknowledge your presence in every encounter.
Let each encounter be an opportunity for healing
And an Epiphany in which I see your face
And affirm your presence everywhere.
Amen.

Act

Practice seeing the holiness in everyone you meet, including political leaders you see on the news. Greet each person with the inner message, “the Spirit in me greets the Spirit in you” and seek to bring out the best in every encounter.
