Reflect
In this jubilee year of Francis of Assisi, there are so many things we can learn from his example. One of them is his devotion to poverty. What does it mean to think of poverty not as something to avoid or fear, but (like Francis) as something to embrace?
Pray
Lord,
You once said: foxes have dens, and the birds have nests,
but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head.
Help me to let go of my desire for ease and comfort
and, inspired by Your servant Francis,
let me too, put my whole life in Your hand.
Act
Sit still for 15 minutes, allowing yourself to rest in the poverty of stillness and silence. As you sit, ponder this passage from the prayer of St. Francis:
It is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
How will you be reborn this Lent?
