thanks in giving, food, meal

Reflect

Thomas Merton once wrote, “To be grateful is to recognize the love of God in everything.” Today, as we meet with family, whether from near or far, may we find a moment to express gratitude for all that God has provided, perhaps in the very action of giving to another. It could be a kind gesture or a word of support. Even in passing food around the Thanksgiving dinner table, we are accepting and offering the goodness of God’s creation. Embrace the opportunity!

Pray

Lord of all goodness,
We thank you for the gift of today, a holiday grounded in family and connection.
May we open our hearts to the possibility of giving to others on this day of celebration.
For all those who suffer through the holidays, including Thanksgiving, due to isolation, sickness, or any other kind of painful separation from the human family, we offer this prayer of solidarity.
Indeed, you are never alone—on this day or any other.
For all those who find themselves together with family, but conflicted in these times of extreme polarity, know that our shared presence with each other is both a gift and reminder of our unity as the body of Christ.
Amen.

Act

Some take time to bring canned goods to food drives on and around Thanksgiving. That’s holy work, but it’s not for everyone. Fortunately, God provides countless ways to give. Even simply making eye contact with a person in need can connect two souls who formerly seemed separate and apart. Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Franciscan Media!
