Reflect

In Mark’s Gospel, Jesus sees a man with a withered hand, a hand that was obvious to everyone. Most of us have withered parts, too, even if they aren’t visible to anyone else. Maybe a withered heart of compassion, or a shriveled prayer life, or a dried-up spirit of generosity?

Pray

Dear Jesus,
only you can see the parts of me
that have withered,
and only you can heal them.
Please restore in me what is broken:
fill my heart with generosity,
let my hands bring kindness and compassion,
let my mind be full of prayer and praise for you.

Act

Study your hand today. Notice the veins, fingernails, and palm creases. What “withers” come to mind? Stretch out your hand and imagine God’s touch and healing of those withered parts.
