Let’s Thank God a Little More

woman praying

Reflect

We all like to hear “thank you” from time to time. We thank cashiers at the grocery store, we thank drivers who let us in on a busy highway, we thank folks for all sorts of things. Maybe we should thank God a little more often.

Pray

Gracious God,
all that is beautiful
is your gift.
You have given me life,
you have given me mercy,
you have given me your son
as brother and redeemer.

I now give to you
my heart.
I thank you, Lord
and I love you. Amen.

Act

As you offer up this prayer today, name three things—big or small—for which you are grateful. Let God know his gifts don’t go unnoticed.

  1. As I was working at my local grocery store the other day emptying out the trash in front of the store, an older woman walked up to me to thank me for what I was doing. I didn’t know what to say at first, since I felt I was simply doing my job, but I thanked her for her thanks anyways.

But it did get me to thinking more about how there are many people who really appreciate everything that is available here where we live. I know how very lucky we are. I’m also happy to have a job since in smaller towns, jobs are harder to come by. I live in a county where one doesn’t have to be rich to feel rich. What a difference from living in the big city. Also, at my age, I’m almost sixty, there is no point in working full-time either. I still have my share of hobbies.

  2. Lord Jesus Christ, fill us with your Holy Spirit and transform us into the Christ-like holiness you desire. Increase our zeal for your kingdom and instill in us a holy desire to live for your greater glory. Amen.
