Reflect
We see through Scripture that we cannot authentically follow Jesus without prioritizing care for those on the margins of society as he did. To fix our hearts on compassion today, let us offer up the following prayer.
Pray
Merciful Jesus,
those hurt and cast aside
by society
have always been especially
welcomed by you.
Help me be a friend and advocate
for these whom you cherish;
open my eyes
to see the image of God in all.
Send your Spirit to comfort those
who have been rejected,
feeding and strengthening them
for the calling for which they were created.
Grow us all in mercy.
Amen.
Act
Look for ways to treat someone on the margins of society with dignity and friendship today. It might be someone at work, a stranger on the street, or a next-door neighbor.
