Grief in Gethsemane

Reflect

During Lent, as we witness the fullness of Jesus’ story, we see over and over again that we have a God who fully understands the range of our human emotions.

Pray

Dear God,
i
n the moments before betrayal,
Jesus said, “My heart
is ready
to break
with grief.”

And his next action
was to pray.
And once he prayed,
he accepted your will
for him.

We, too, can brave our fears
of what is about to transpire.
When our hearts
are ready to break,
may we be like Jesus,
moving forward into prayer,
and turning to you,
knowing where you dwell
inside us.

Act

Repeat the “Our Father” prayer several times. Say it slowly and really savor the calming feeling of the words, “Thy will be done.” Can you let go of your will and find God’s peace?
