Reflect
The world is a scary place–wars, floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, fires, crime–and yet how many times does Jesus command, “Do not be afraid.” Trusting his goodness can help quell our fears.
Pray
Dear God, am I truly safe? Can I trust you?
What if something bad happens?
What if I get hurt, or even worse, what if someone I love gets hurt?
I know you say, “Do not be afraid” (Luke 12:32)
and “I am with you always, until the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20)
and “I know the plans I have for you… plans for your welfare and not for woe” (Jeremiah 29:11).
Yes Lord, I know.
Please help me feel it as deeply as I know it.
Amen.
Act
Like the centurion in Mark 9:24, we hold conflicting emotions at the same time. Today, if you start to feel afraid, repeat the centurion’s words of trust, “I do believe, help my unbelief!”
