Angel Lights

David writes in Psalm 138:1, “I thank you, Lord, with all my heart; in the presence of the angels to you I sing.” In what ways have angels been a part of your faith journey?

Today we celebrate the angels,
how their winged luminosity intertwined with Mary’s life,
Jesus’ life, and our own.
When our hearts are overflowing with singing the angels are near.
And even when we are silent, waiting, full of fear,
they descend and lovingly wrap their light around us
until we can once again feel how near they are, how they shine.

Some of the most valued art in the world are paintings of angel Gabriel at the Annunciation. Leonardo da Vinci, Fra Angelico, and Henry Ossawa Tanner all created indelible images. Today, look up one of these “Annunciations,” and give yourself the gift of soaking in the magic of it.
