Prayers for Troubled Hearts

Woman praying at mass

In Times of Misfortune or Hardship

Opening Prayer

You know us, Lord, so we turn to you at this time of testing, praying in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Scripture

So we do not lose heart. Even though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed day by day. For this slight momentary affliction is preparing us for an eternal weight of glory beyond all measure, because we look not at what can be seen but at what cannot be seen; for what can be seen is temporary, but what cannot be seen is eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:16–18)

When Someone Is Ill

Opening Prayer

In faith we pray for ___________, who shares in the suffering of Christ, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Scripture

Are any among you suffering? They should pray. Are any cheerful? They should sing songs of praise. Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord. The prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise them up. (James 5:13–15a)
