The Gospel for the third Sunday of Advent tells of John the Baptist preaching about the coming of Christ, the light of the world.
At the start of the second week of Advent, we hear from the Gospel of Mark about John the Baptist’s foretelling of the coming of Christ and his baptisms of people in the Jordan river.
When Mark and I first got married, we went through all the required Pre-Cana classes and even decided to go for the full Engaged Encounter weekend as opposed to the abbreviated one-day class. Come our wedding day, we thought we were set. Finances? Check. Number of children desired? Check. Extended family? Thoroughly discussed.
I often find myself rolling my eyes a bit whenever I hear the Christmas song “Silent Night” during this time of year. You see, silent nights have been very few and far between in our house for the past 21 years—ever since we brought our oldest daughter, Maddie, home from the hospital.
This has been a difficult year, for sure. But in the birth of Christ, we celebrate the arrival of the hope we long for right now. All of us at Franciscan Media wish you a very blessed Christmas and New Year.
In the midst of these uncertain times, here are five ways to rethink your Advent and Christmas season.
