Mark Forrester is a United Methodist clergyperson who lived most of his life in the world of higher education––as a campus minister, as Vanderbilt University Chaplain and Director of Religious Life, and as the UMC’s denominational director of Collegiate Ministries. He now enjoys retirement with his wife, extended family, and friends from many spiritual and contemplative traditions.
The Trappist monk Thomas Merton practiced and wrote about the contemplative life of interior solitude, which, he believed, was not cultivated by isolating ourselves from the world.
