Daily Reading from the USCCB: Isaiah 26:1-6
Isaiah continues to instruct God’s people about God’s providential plans for their future, and what kind of future they can expect. Today we learn that the future of God’s people includes security. When the day of the Lord arrives the people will sing a song of victory over their enemies. God’s city will be impregnable. God will serve as a wall of safety for those who are his own.
This reading invites the people to trust in the strength of God’s city and in God’s intent to keep us in peace. “Trust in the Lord forever,” the prophet says, “for the Lord is an eternal rock.”
God invited trust from his people then. He still does yet today. He is still our rock of safety.
