Sharing the Word

In today's passage, Jeremiah looks forward to a time when God’s people will be saved and dwell in security.

Today’s First Reading shows us the patriarch Jacob on his death bed distributing blessings to his twelve sons.

The only requirement for participation in the power and glory of the Lord is to open ourselves to him. “Turn to me and be safe,” the Lord says.

God reaches out to the humble and lowly--to those who feel no need for self-aggrandizement. It is they to whom God offers salvation.

Christians have seen the Balaam narrative as a messianic prophecy. A Messiah would rise like a star over his people.

As Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mary takes her place on the side of those who are poor and powerless in this world.
