It is not important to be important Jesus says. By the widow’s expression of total dependence on God she stands higher in the sight of God than all the scribes and religious leaders.

In Psalm 110 David refers to the Messiah as “my Lord.” How can the Messiah be more than David and yet be David’s son? It’s a complicated question that involves scriptural interpretation and popular understanding about the Messiah and the significance of David.

More than 60 years ago Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and other faith, labor, and civil rights leaders called for a “revolution of values” in America. They sought to build a broad movement that would bring together and raise up the voices of the poor and marginalized.
Dr. King believed that the poor could come together and transform all of society. But he understood that to do so a transformation would have to take place in the thinking and behavior of the majority of Americans.

Keeping the commandments is not a matter of observing a set of rules. It’s a matter of loving God and carrying out the consequences of that love.

Through the Trinity we have strength to live in relationship to one another. We’re to encourage one another and live in peace. Such a relationship is God’s plan for us.

There have been sufferings connected with the work of Timothy and Paul, but Paul is confident that God will continue to guard the gifts entrusted to them.

Jesus implies that we owe something to God because we have received from him. We owe something to government because we receive services of various kinds from it. Both government and religion have claims on us.
