Saint William of York, born William fitzHerbert, faced great obstacles as Archbishop of York just trying to take hold of his diocese. His ordination as bishop was refused, then it was performed by another bishop but then not recognized by Rome. When he finally took over his diocese, he died within a few months.
Jesus tells us that the Holy Spirit will teach us what we need to know. He says the Spirit works in union with Jesus and with the Father. There is consolation in those words for us as we face the fears and questions of our time in the Church and in the world.
Jesus and his teaching–far from undermining the law–bring the law and the prophets to a whole new level of meaning and intensity. Jesus has not come to abolish, but to clarify and to enrich.

Salt and light give zest, flavor, joy, and clarity to life. So also believers give good flavor and brightness to the world around them. How am I salt and light for the world?
Anthony was a missionary in Morocco for less than a year. Little is known about those months except that Anthony became so ill that his superiors decided to send him back home.
“Finally, brothers, rejoice. Mend your ways, encourage one another, agree with one another, live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you” (2 Cor 13:11). Who among us does not desire this? Whenever I hear these words, it’s as if the Spirit of God is whispering: “This is right. This is good. This is what we are made for.”
Saint Norbert founded the order with the most difficult name to pronounce and spell—Praemonstratensians. Perhaps that’s why they go by the name of Norbertines. But this order was anything but hard to appreciate when it comes to the work they did. They were very effective in converting heretics and reconciling enemies.
