Humility isn’t self-deprecation; it’s the joy of standing rightly before God and others. St. Francis knew this: When we recognize how small we are—and yet how deeply loved—we begin to glimpse the vastness of God’s power and tenderness. And when we understand that we are no more important than anyone else, we come to see just how profoundly important everyone else is. Jesus’ parable reminds us not to seek places of honor, but to let God lift us in God’s time.
Pray
God of wisdom, teach me to be humble—not to think less of myself, but to think of myself less. Let awe of you shape how I see myself and others. Free me from the need to be first, best, or noticed. May I find my joy in loving others well and resting in your delight. Amen.
