Reflect
What is the “lot of the saints?” In his letter to the Colossians, Paul speaks of giving thanks that we have been made worthy to partake of it. But what does he mean? Many of our saints suffered martyrdom, imprisonment, sacrifices, and miseries. Was that their lot in life? And is that what Paul gives thanks for? Or is it, perhaps, their faith, the certainty that carried them through, the knowledge that no matter where they went, or what happened to them, even in their darkest hour, God was there—with them, their comfort and their light. And that is something we should still give thanks for.
Pray
Lord,
You are always at my side,
my rock and my guide.
Fill my heart with your love
and let me always rest in your will,
trusting that in your presence
I will find true rest, true joy,
true love, and the fulfillment
of my soul’s longing.
Amen.
Act
Read Psalm 23 and spend some time contemplating what it means to trust yourself fully to the love of God. Ask yourself: How has God been a comfort to me today? And know—that is your lot. Give thanks.
