Letting Go of What We Love

Reflect

Louis Martin (1823-1894) experienced so much loss in just about 10 years: his beloved wife’s death, followed by the departure of his youngest daughter to join two older sisters in cloistered religious life. Despite physical and mental problems that led to his death a few years later, Louis did nothing to discourage Thérèse’s vocation.

Pray

St. Louis, I know that those I love
belong not to me, but to God.
Show me how to envelop them in love
even as I watch them grow and fly.

Act

Journal about how a mentor or parent respected your decision on a serious matter, even though it meant the two of you would have less time together.
