Reflect
In Luke 1:45, we read that Jesus often stayed outside the towns in ‘deserted places.’ It’s easy to see God in a glorious sunset or a budding daffodil, but he also waits for us in the bleak, barren place of our lives.
Pray
Dear Jesus,
I really don’t like the desolate,
lonely places in my life.
I’d rather focus on the joy and beauty.
But in the desert,
without the distraction
of my pride and arrogance,
is where I am most likely to find you.
Help me meet you there,
in the heartache and suffering;
let me come to you. Amen.
Act
Imagine a desert scene—hot, dry, blindingly bright, and imagine talking to Jesus there about the dry places in your heart.
