I Can Pray

hands folded over a Bible in prayer

Reflect

When she could no longer protest injustice, Dorothy Day asserted that “I can still pray.” We can always do something to change the world. Prayers are powerful. Prayer connects us, God, others, and our inner resources to change the world. In every situation, you can pray, and then use what abilities have to bring greater joy and love to the world.

Pray

God of possibility and creativity,
You are always with us,
Your energy of love always sustains us.
Give us the grace to pray
And know that our prayers make a difference
And tip the world, by your grace,
From death to love, hate to love, and scarcity to abundance.
Amen.

Act

Thomas of Celano described Francis of Assisi with these words, “His life was a prayer.” Paul the apostle says, “pray without ceasing.” Today, make your life a prayer. Say a short prayer or take a healing breath in every encounter, when you leave home and return, when you check your newsfeed and social media. Open to God’s guidance in living today and discovering how can serve Jesus with the resources that you have, whether large or small.
