This week’s first reading and Gospel speak to the issues of marriage and children.

Father Michael Joseph (M.J.) Groark, OFM Cap, could have very well been one of the statistics. However, with the help of faith and the Capuchin Franciscans, Father M.J. faced his addiction and eventually found his way to the priesthood.

This week, we listen to the Gospel story from the book of Mark in which Mark tells the disciples that “whoever is not against us is for us.”

This week, we hear Jesus tell the disciples, “whoever receives one child such as this in my name, receives me.”

In this week’s Gospel, Jesus asks the disciples who they think he is and then proceeds to predict his passion for the first time.

All too often, we fail to recognize those in the less-than-visible jobs. But try to imagine your life if there were no people to fill those roles.

In this week’s Gospel, we listen to the story of Jesus’ healing of the man who was deaf.
