The narratives from today’s Gospel teach us that Jesus took care of all kinds of people and that his interventions took place in all sorts of ways.

Jesus’ primary mission was to his own people. Others were to benefit from the ministry of Jesus, but only later. Still today Jesus loves and takes care of those in need.

Christian spirituality has taught believers how to pray. Prayer is a matter of reverently lifting our hearts to God. What matters is what’s in our hearts and what comes out of our hearts.

There are priorities in religious practice. Some things are more important than others. Jesus is not opposed to religious tradition, except when it is observed without love of God and neighbor.

Christ is accessible to us today in many ways. If we are not healed of our ills the problem is not Christ’s but ours for not reaching out to be in touch with him.

Jesus’ heart was moved with pity for the people because they were like sheep without a shepherd. They saw and pursued in Jesus what sheep see and pursue in their shepherd.
