It seemed inconceivable to the Jews that anything could happen to the temple. Yet Jesus says that not one stone will be left upon another.

Generosity is relative to the resources of the one who offers. No gift is too small as long as it represents the heart of the giver.

We Christians believe in the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. If there is no resurrection, then Christ has not risen from the dead, and we have no future in which to look forward.

Jesus’ platform for the proclamation of his word is a community of faith–the Church. Jesus makes himself and his teaching known in and through the Church.

God will visit his people more than once in various ways before the world ends. When he comes the visitations of the Lord can be occasions of fear and trembling.

In the narrative of the nobleman and his long journey, Jesus implies that the kingdom may still be far off. But in the meantime the servants have work to do, tending to the master’s business till he returns.

In his outreach to Zacchaeus Jesus is also inviting us to reach out to him. Our care for those in need and our desire for justice constitute an effort to see Jesus, like Zacchaeus climbing the sycamore tree.
