In today’s reading the prophet looks forward to the advent of the Lord, who will come to purify his people–to bring a new era of holiness.

God may not intervene with visions and miraculous births, but he is active in every human life nonetheless. The Lord has ways of getting his will done.
Christian believers have long looked upon the “Song of Songs” as a love song of the Lord for his beloved, the Church.

In today’s passage, Jeremiah looks forward to a time when God’s people will be saved and dwell in security.

Today’s First Reading shows us the patriarch Jacob on his death bed distributing blessings to his twelve sons.

The only requirement for participation in the power and glory of the Lord is to open ourselves to him. “Turn to me and be safe,” the Lord says.

God reaches out to the humble and lowly–to those who feel no need for self-aggrandizement. It is they to whom God offers salvation.
