The Gospel today reminds us of a deeper truth: We are not defined by our possessions, but by the One who possesses us. Ecclesiastes asks, “What profit comes to mortals from all the toil and anxiety of heart?” (Ecc 2:22). And Jesus warns against storing treasures that rot, calling us to root our lives in love, mercy, and grace. Colossians urges us to “put to death” what is earthly—not because the earth is bad, but because the heart belongs elsewhere. To follow Christ is to reorient our desires toward the eternal, not the material.

Pray

Lord, strip away what I cling to that does not give me life. Help me live as one who trusts in your love rather than my status or stuff. Remind me that my truest treasure is you, and that all I truly need is found in your presence. When I am tempted to measure my worth by the world’s standards, turn my heart toward heaven and ground me in your grace. Amen.

Act

Let go of one item or habit today that’s been taking up too much space in your heart. Make room for Christ.
