Sharing the Word for February 23, 2021

Tuesday of the First Week of Lent

February 23, 2021
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Isaiah 55:10-11

God’s word has been calling his people to repentance. Today we hear God assuring his people that his word has its own dynamic and will indeed reach the conclusion he has in mind for it. There are implications in what God says.

First, God’s word is not just a matter of God saying something. God’s word is an event. It does something. Secondly, human beings don’t cause rain and snow to happen, nor do they cause God’s word or its results. It’s God’s doing. Finally, though God’s word comes from God’s initiative, human involvement is still required. The farmer still has to plant the seed.

During Lent God invites us to see his word at work–achieving the end for which he sends it.
