Sharing the Word for February 16, 2022

Wednesday of the Sixth Week in Ordinary Time

Daily Reading from the USCCB: James 1:19-27

The author now presents some examples of areas in which the trials and tribulations mentioned in the previous reading can be experienced. Apparently they are set forth without any particular order.

First he urges his readers to beware of anger, which does not accomplish the righteousness of God. Next he calls them to put away “evil excesses.” Next he tells them to be serious about their execution of God’s will in their Christian existence. They must be clear about their purpose–not merely responding superficially to the Lord in their lives. They must be careful in their speech and solicitous about caring for those in need.

All of this suggests that Christian life is complex. It’s not something we can execute without focus and attention.

New call-to-action
