Saint Paul’s First Letter to the Thessalonians is the oldest extant writing of Christianity. It deals with fundamentals that would permeate Christian teaching from now on.

Obed becomes the father of Jesse, the father of David. Ruth and Boaz's son is the grandfather of the king who brought Israel to its finest hours.

Ruth refuses to leave her mother-in-law. She has formed a deep bond with Naomi’s people--who are God’s people. Their affection leads to results that no one could have foreseen.

When we are dealing with God we must conduct ourselves carefully.  A vow once made must be kept. We can’t toy with God or play games with him.

The Israelites set up a king and the results proved to be catastrophic. Having a king other than God is counterproductive. Following God’s will is always best.

Sometimes God asks difficult things of us. “I can’t possibly carry out what God is asking,” we tell ourselves. God responds, “Go with the strength you have. It is I who send you.”
