Sharing the Word

In the narrative of the nobleman and his long journey, Jesus implies that the kingdom may still be far off. But in the meantime the servants have work to do, tending to the master’s business till he returns.

In his outreach to Zacchaeus Jesus is also inviting us to reach out to him. Our care for those in need and our desire for justice constitute an effort to see Jesus, like Zacchaeus climbing the sycamore tree.

We all have limitations and deficiencies to present to the Lord for his attention. Today’s narrative teaches us to bring our needs to the Lord persistently and confidently.

If the unjust judge in today's parable eventually gives in to the petitioner because he gets tired of her unceasing petitions, how much more will God listen to requests of those he loves?

It’s important for the Christian believer to reflect occasionally on the last judgment. If nothing else, such reflection will remind us that the time for change and repentance is now.

We can’t predict when or where the kingdom will appear in its final fullness. We can only try to be attentive to its manifestations as we continue to pray “Thy kingdom come.”
