The beginning of the year is always a perfect opportunity to start something new. That certainly also holds true for us here at St. Anthony Messenger. Last January, we launched our complete redesign of the magazine. Other years, we have started the year off by introducing new columns, some of which you still see in these pages, such as “At Home on Earth. “

In 2003, I attended a gathering of clergy sex-abuse survivors in Lexington, Kentucky, for St. Anthony Messenger’s June special issue on the crisis.

Last October, Major League Baseball released a new slogan— “Let the kids play “—that encouraged players to show their personalities and enjoyment for the game and just have fun.

Whenever I think about addiction, my cinema-obsessed mind immediately goes to director Darren Aronofsky’s brutal but brilliant 2000 film, Requiem for a Dream.

Have you ever had that one teacher who had such a positive impact that you carried the lessons from her or him forward for years to come? I certainly did.
